Nail Health: Keeping Attractive Nails

Some people spend hours on their nails and others don’t. It’s important to keep them clean and trimmed or filed. This stimulates health nail growth. Avoid nail polish if at all possible as this does not allow the nail to breathe and can bring on a nail fungus infection.
Soaking your nails in tee tree oil can be beneficial to your nails because it promotes nail growth as well as can ward off infection.

Though the idea is somewhat controversial, some people claim that soaking your nails (free of polish) in a bowl of milk will help make nails stronger.
One of the keys to good nail health is good nutrition. A healthy diet and the right supplements (if needed) can truly benefit your fingernails.

You should try to keep your nails clean and dry. Make sure you wash your hands regularly and dry them thoroughly after each washing.

Lotion doesn’t just have to be for your hands, it can benefit your fingernails too. Your nails also need to be moisturized and so do your cuticles. It’s true, they do offer nail lotions on the market, but this is an unnecessary expenditure as your regular hand cream or lotion will do just as good of a job.

If you suffer from dry or brittle nails, you may consider adding green tea into your diet. If you’re not a tea drinker, it can be very beneficial just to soak your nails in some green tea about once a week. Some clear coat polishes come infused with green tea oils, but given the above advice about avoiding nail polish, I would not recommend this.

When you see people filing their nails vigorously from side to side, this isn’t really the best or healthiest method for filing your nails. You should be filing your nails in one direction towards the middle. Sawing back and forth will only tear up your nails.

Cuticle care is very important also. Some stores sell cuticle kits. Otherwise, you can push your cuticles back with a cotton swab or an orange stick. Avoid cutting your cuticles. This is not healthy and can be painful. You should also avoid picking at your cuticles and biting your nails.

Garlic, eggs, fortified cereals, flax seeds, cinnamon, tuna, almonds, yogurt, Brussel sprouts, spinach and salmon all promote nail growth and overall nail health. Gelatin supplements are also excellent for your nails.
